Saturday, May 1st, 2021 -- 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
- Format: Virtual
- Cost: $15 for the public, or $10 for Bloominglabs members

A close cousin to locks are security seals and defeating them can be just as much fun as lock picking. If you need to detect if something has been tampered with in your absence then you want to understand what makes some seals better than others. We’ll cover many types of seals along with their pros and cons. We’ll also get into ink technology, chemistry, and how this relates to counterfeit product detection among other areas. Virtual workshop includes a seal practice kit delivered ahead of time.

Have you ever wanted to learn origami? In this class, you will learn several designs and how each step relates to common instructions so you can apply skills learned in this class to many other origami projects. As this will be on Mother's Day weekend, this session will start with flowers but will not solely be them. If there is a design you wish to learn, send it to contact@bloominglabs.org when you register. The kit will include origami paper and instruction print-outs to use as notes after the workshop.

Come explore our woodshop and learn woodshop safety, how to work from a design, the basics of working with wood, how to use tools (table saw, band saw, drill press, radial arm saw, and hand drills), and how to finish a project with sanding and sealant. This workshop is structured around using all the big-project tools in our woodshop while creating workbenches for Bloominglabs. You'll develop a familiarity with the woodshop tools, learn how to build a sturdy workbench, and at the end get a plaque to affix to the table you helped build!
